Herb-a-licous

I bought a basil plant yesterday! She's so cute and nice to look at and smells incredible. We'll see how this whole trying-to-keep-a-plant-alive thing goes. I tried to grow basil from seeds last year. I over watered it and the soil molded. I was devastated. Hopefully I can keep this cutey alive and well and enjoy her tasty leaves in my tomato soup and pasta sauce!

Meet Me in St. Louis!

No, not the Judy Garland version.

Last weekend Clay and I with our friend Nick headed to St. Louis for Clay's music ed buddy, Stuart's wedding. Clay and Stuart are too very goofy people, so it's only natural that they became good friends and share more inside jokes than you could imagine.

Anyway, I'd never been to St. Louis and after a very sketching train ride to my hotel I wasn't sure I ever wanted to come back again. After spending a few hours sight seeing and hanging out with fun people, I warmed up to the city and we all had a really exhausting fun weekend!

We ate lunch at this delicious oyster house and this fantastic band was there. I'm pretty sure they were all high out of their minds and the lead singer is wearing sweatpants. It was awesome.

 

This was a beautiful fountain in the lobby of the reception hall. So pretty. This is also when my camera died, so no pictures of the reception :(

Also, during the ceremony, the mom's accidentally lit the unity candle and then had a hilarious reaction to when they realized what they'd done. It was priceless. There is a video on facebook but I can't figure out how to link it up to this post. If I figure it out I'll let you guys know because it was wonderfully funny.

My New Friend

About once a month (I should go more) I try to volunteer at the Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter. I got involved with them after the storm because there were a ton of lost animals that needed help to and I'm much better at dealing with sad animals than sad people. Anyway, I wanted to introduce all of you to my very good friend, Charlie. 

Charlie and his sister were abandoned by their owner in November because she just couldn't afford to take care of the little guys any longer. Charlie is 15 years old, which is very old in kitty cat years and he also very round, lazy, and sweet. The shelter fell in love with these sweethearts and decided to not adopt them out and just let them live at the shelter. They are so chill (see picture above), they just lay around in the lobby and wait for passersby to pet them.

I wish I weren't allergic to cats so that Charlie could come live with me because I feel like we are kindred spirits (I mean, look at the guy. We'd get along great!) For now though, he is my motivator to volunteer more and help out all of his furry friends at the shelter! 

PSA: Adopt, volunteer at, or donate to you local shelter. They work really hard, are fantastic people, and do great work!

Thoughts on Breakfast

A few weeks ago I woke up when my alarm went off, sludged groggily into the kitchen and pulled out my go-to easy breakfast, a granola bar. When I looked at the wrapper (pictured below) I realized something...

...there was a picture of a Jonas brother on my breakfast. I think this was a sign that it was time for me to stop eating like a 10 year old and graduate to a more adult breakfast food.

Today I when had a morning meeting and decided to grab some breakfast afterwards, I thought back on my JoBro granola and decided to opt for a more adult option. A strawberry scone and cup of hot tea!

I feel so grown up.

And So It Begins

Wedding season started early for me this year. I've already been to two events and have at least 20 more before the end of March. Good thing I love weddings or I'd get sick of all of this really fast. 

This past weekend my friend Emily from Tiger Eyes got married in Auburn. Unfortunately, it rained cats and dogs all day but the ceremony and reception were still beautiful and don't they say it's good luck to have rain on your wedding day? 

Her theme was cherry blossoms and all of the tables had these gorgeous centerpieces. They went very well with the rustic setting at the Moore's Mill Club. 

I got to spend lots of time with my former roommate and beautiful friend, Dawn!

It was such a nice wedding and I'm looking forward to so many more in the near future!

These Days

Last Friday night my friends Whitney and Steph and I put on our cowboy boots and drove to the Ham to see Rascal Flatts, Sara Evans, and Hunter Hayes in concert for Whitney's birthday. I had already seen Rascal Flatts in concert a few years ago so I knew it was going to be a great show! One of the things I love about country music is that the artist can actually sing and sound great live. No one auto-tunes, there isn't a lot of dancing to tire them out, it's really just all about the voice.

Needless to say, we had a fantastic time! Here are some pictures of the fun...

 Hunter Hayes was the opening act and he was absolutely precious. I didn't really know much about him because he's new to the country music scene. He's actually written several hits (including ones on Rascal Flatts' albums) and has just now released his own album. He was quite the cutie but I'm pretty sure he was born in the 90's (jail bate!). You should check out his song "Storm Warning"!  (If I were a good blogger I would have his song playing in the background but I'm too lazy to figure out how to do that.) 

Next up was Sara Evans, which was a lot of fun because she lives in Birmingham and all of her family and friends were there. She has 7 kids and they put a spotlight on all of them jumping up and down and screaming. It was really cute. Anyway, this girl can really belt it out. She was phenomenal!

Finally Rascal Flatts came on and sang all my favorite songs! They had on some absolutely ridiculous outfits on (picture a rhinestone POW/MIA shirt with white pants. Yeah.) but I forgave them and rocked out anyway. Unfortunately, this was the only picture we got of the 3 of us and it is a low quality iPhone pic. I didn't trust any of the people sitting around us with my camera. There was a lot of alcohol floating around our section.

After the concert I came home to these lovely flowers from my Valentine! Yay weekend!
